WisconsinRx National CooperativeRx History

WisconsinRx was born when three coalitions of plan sponsors, representing large employers, coalitions of small employers and labor organizations, came together to solve a common problem. They wanted to control their overall drug spend, make better decisions with better data and gain access to transparent information about their pharmacy benefit management.

Not finding what they were looking for in the private Pharmacuetical Benefit Manager (PBM) market, they created the non-for-profit, member-owned WisconsinRx to act as their watchdog over their pharmacy benefits – a team of specialists to manage the complex and ever-changing world of prescription drug purchasing.

Our founding members, which include The Alliance, the Fond du Lac Area Business Coalition on Health (FABOH) and WEA Trust, created WisconsinRx as a cooperative to ensure that our priorities are always aligned with the needs of our members. Upon joining, plan sponsors become our owners and receive ownership dividends. Regardless of size, all cooperative members gain access to the same deep discounts, rebate guarantees and level of customer service normally granted to only the largest companies in the nation.

Today, WisconsinRx and its national subsidiary, National CooperativeRx, provide prescription drug benefits to nearly 240,000 employees and dependents. This represents exponential growth since we began in 2003. Our vision for the future can be summed up by two complimentary goals: continue to grow our membership, and continue to grow the value we bring to member plans.

What They're Saying

"Our members are diverse but they all share a strong desire to collectively tackle the 'black box' of prescription financing and administration and increasing costs.  In a nutshell, that's what we do."

-Greg Horstman, CEO of WisconsinRx/National CooperativeRx
